Helping clients live the life they want
John started his career back in the days when the ‘Man from the Pru’ used to call round to the house. Two decades, three corporates (banks) and one national financial advice firm later, he chose to settle at Davidsons, where the client-focused ethos matched his own.
He believes passionately in client service and shares the company’s views that people matter and that money is just a tool to help clients deliver the kind of life that they want to live.
“Being independent is critical in the ability to help clients to get the most from life. Life is not one-dimensional and financial advice needs to reflect that. The ability to access any solution from the whole of the market is crucial when it comes to meeting the varied needs of clients, as are regular reviews to ensure long-term goals are met.”
When not advising clients, John likes to bodyboard and cycle (but only in the summer!). In winter, he enjoys sitting by his wood burner and reading a good book, usually about finance – although his wife sometimes disagrees with this definition of ‘a good book’!
We have found Davidsons to be very understanding of our need for future financial security as we approached retirement. This has helped us to achieve what we need from our investments and pensions in a very friendly, informative and professional manner.

Three things on my bucket list are:
Flying in a Spitfire over the white cliffs of Dover. Hiking the Inca trail to Machu Picchu. Seeing Uluru (Ayers Rock), Australia.
The three small things that make my day better are:
Seeing a stunning sunrise on the beach. Coffee in the mornings. Sitting by a wood burner or real fire.
The three things I love most about my job are:
The great feeling when I’ve helped clients achieve their dreams or aspirations. Working collectively as part of a team. No day is ever the same. I enjoy researching the markets and am fascinated by the constantly changing world of investments and how this can benefit my clients.
When the dessert menu arrives, I’m looking for:
Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream – custard is evil!
- Coastal path walking, especially with our dog Molly, who is a lively Sprolly – a Springer/Collie cross
- Watching rugby
- Visiting family in Pembrokeshire in Wales
- Real ale in local pubs
