February 2001 - I left the employment of Lloyds TSB and set up Davidsons IFA. Young and idealistic, I wanted to deal honestly with clients. I didn't want to sell products, I wanted to talk to people, listen to them and then help.  Like most advisers, I had the technical knowledge, but over the years the banks, and the wider personal finance industry, skew that into selling their own products to maximise profit.

Over the years the business has grown - one client at a time. Today we have a team of highly qualified and professional advisers helping people with their pensions, investments, mortgages or simply all-round financial planning. We don't have a list of products to sell. We listen to clients, hear about their particular and unique concerns and then try to help. That might involve moving pension provider or building an investment portfolio, or it may simply be a case of tweaking the current fund choice within their existing product. Our advice process and our fees are clear and transparent and our service is accessible to all.

More recently, we have obtained FCA permissions to offer advice on company defined benefit pension schemes. With the introduction of pension freedoms, it is more important than ever that members of such schemes have access to honest advice. While an increasing number of firms are pulling out of this market, we are stepping up.

In July 2018, we are introducing our new discretionary investment service, offered by our new sister company, Davidsons Portfolio Management. Our two companies will work together to provide professional, well-run portfolios at fees which are among the lowest in the industry.

And finally, in August we will be opening our new office in Wadebridge, Cornwall. This is an important step because it will allow us to look after our growing Cornwall-based clients and offer our unique brand of professional and honest financial advice across the South West.

June 2018 - I'm a bit older with a bit more grey around the temples, but very proud of how The Davidson Group has not only grown to be one of the major IFAs in the South West, but also how we have remained true to that original idea of providing straight forward, honest financial advice, based on what is right for the client, not what we might earn. Independence is crucial, not just in terms of our advice but how we think, how we act and how we treat all clients as individuals.
